Sikorsky H-5

Sikorsky H-5 helicopter

The first of Sikorsky's helicopters to depart from the straight design lineage of the VS-300 prototype, the R-5 Dragonfly first flew in August 1943. Among the first operational tasks carried out by the R-985 powered Dragonfly was rescue, with the R-5A models being able to carry a pair of stretchers externally. Most were later reworked as R-5Ds with a rescue hoist and third seat, and later the USAF continued to buy the type as the H-5F/G/H.
