Reconnaissance Spitfire photo
Reconnaissance Spitfire PR XI at Air Force Museum
Photo reconnaissance Supermarine Spitfire, as flown by the USAAF, on display at Dayton. It is displayed as an aircraft of the 14th Photographic Squadron, which flew sorties over occupied Europe from Mount Farm airfield in the UK. Among the unit’s notable events were the first Spitfire reconnaissance flights over Berlin, support of Operations Overlord and Market Garden, and (probably) being the first USAAF unit to lose an aircraft to German jets.
