Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-19 Farmer model at NMUSAF
Equivalent to the North American F-100 Super Sabre, the MiG-19 gave the Soviets their first production fighter type able to reach Mach 1 in level flight. The MiG-19S Farmer-C variant on display at the NMUSAF had a heavy gun armament in the form of a trio of NR-30 cannon. It was flown by the USAF’s 457th Technical Evaluation Squadron for training American pilots how to defeat Soviet types, before being retired to Dayton.
