B-58 Hustler walk around
In 1969, with the B-58 Hustler's career with Strategic Air Command nearing an end, aircraft 59-2458 Cowtown Hustler was flown to Wright Patterson AFB for display at the Air Force Museum. This B-58 was used to set three speed records during a Los Angeles to New York flight and back in March 1962, which earned the crews both the Bendix and Mackay trophies for that year. It is presently displayed in the modern day NMUSAF's Cold War Gallery.
The B-58 was the last US strategic bomber to incorporate a defensive gun turret, in this case an unmanned unit with a T-171E-3 20mm rotary cannon and controlled by an MD-7 fire control system.
